Fake Rolex classic timepiece collection is joined by a new version of the 1908 model – or rather, a version with a near-perfect gold Settimo bracelet.

Let’s be honest: Geneva-based Rolex – one of the most recognizable and popular watch brands in the world – isn’t synonymous with classic watchmaking. Rolex is primarily about sport (often in a very casual version) and models that don’t evoke elegant classics – the kind presented on a strap, with minimalist proportions and details. Even the new 1908 collection, unveiled in 2023, hasn’t changed this.

The 1908 collection replaced the Cellini line in Rolex’s offerings – a line that also didn’t bring the brand much success. The Cellini, in its most recent iteration, appeared on the market in 2014, and even despite distinguished ambassadors (a model with a white dial is worn by former US President Barack Obama) and impressive versions (a gold model with a moonphase display is impressive), it failed to win over fans. The history of the 1908 line has, until now, seemed to repeat the same pattern. Initially, the watch was presented in several gold versions, paired with leather straps and the new automatic caliber 7140, visible through the sapphire caseback window.

In designing the dial, Rolex opted for an even more striking minimalism and elegant simplicity. The dial features applied indices (including three Arabic numerals), a gold crown, and three hands. The seconds are measured on a small subdial at 6 o’clock, while time is displayed by two central, simple hands with a subtle nod to history. The hour hand is shaped like a characteristic “Mercedes,” but without internal crossbars.

The 1908 is therefore a decidedly classic watch, but one with a rather distinctive style. It’s not the classic we’re accustomed to in watchmaking – although, paradoxically, it possesses all the hallmarks of such a classic. It’s a bit hard to explain, but it’s not for everyone, nor for everyone’s taste, even the most traditional. However, Rolex seems to believe in the 1908 design, as evidenced by its successive references.

A year ago, the Perpetual 1908 appeared in a captivatingly beautiful platinum version, paired with a guilloché, azure-blue dial. And suddenly, the watch began to be talked about more, better, and with the attention it deserved. This year’s edition brought even more fame and glory to the classic Rolex. Or rather, the addition of one element that changed everything.
